Ducks are the common species of birds and can be easily found in both sea water and fresh water. Lots of different varieties of ducks can be found one of them is the Mallard duck. The female Mallard duck is brown in color and has black spots on her back and male mallard has brown color on his body along with a white ring around his neck and back of green color.

The size of the ducks however varies from different species, but generally adult ducks is as similar as a size of a basketball. They exploit a variety of food sources such as grasses, aquatic plants, fish, insects, small amphibians, worms, and small mollusks. During the winter seasons, the male mallard searches for his mate and attract her towards him by showing his colorful feather.

The male mallard takes care of the female mallard when she is nesting and doesn’t allow any thing to come in that area. After the female laid eggs, the male mallard leaves the female mallard in the first week and female sits on the eggs and wait for the eggs to hatch. After the egg is hatched, the baby ducks leaves the nest within 30 days. Male ducks are called "Drakes" and the female duck is called "Hens". The life span of duck is from 2 to 12 years depending upon the type of duck.
